Creating Your Own Pollinator Garden
  • WHAT IS A POLLINATOR?
Noun: an insect that carries pollen from one flower to another
Ex. Butterflies, Bees, Hummingbirds, Bats, Beetles, Moths

  • WHAT IS A NATIVE POLLINATOR GARDEN?
Noun: a garden that is planted with plants native to the area to specifically draw in pollinators

  • Choose plants that have different bloom cycles to keep your garden full of pollinators throughout the growing season

  • Provide a variety of flower colors and shapes to attract different pollinators AND to make your garden visually attractive

  • Plant native plants!  Native plants will attract more native pollinators and can serve as larval host plants for some species of pollinators

  • Plant in groupings--they attract more pollinators than individual plants

  • Generously water your plants right after they're planted

  • Add interest to your garden by decorating it with rocks or other natural objects that help give pollinators a natural home

  • Make sure your garden stays chemical free to protect the pollinators

Creating A Bee House

Would you like to see the pollinator population grow?

You need a wooden box that is open on one side. Next, fill it with blocks of wood or small logs in which you have drilled small holes. Bees will use these as nest sites. Then, you can attach your bee house to a fence, wall or post.

You can find information about how to create the
perfect bee house on the internet or at your local library.
